It's official. No more paci. We arbitrarily decided that yesterday was the day. After church, we informed Nora that her paci was all gone. After a decent effort, she didn't take a nap, which was okay and probably to be expected. When bedtime came around, this was our conversation:
M: Time for nigh-nigh, Nora.
N: My paci (except she says "pashi").
M: Your paci is all gone, remember?
N: Oh.
M: Remember that Mattea doesn't have her paci anymore? And Elsie's paci is all gone. And Aricin's paci.
N: Oh.
N: Mama. Levi has paci,
M: No, Levi's paci is all gone too. Jonah (his brother) has a paci, but Jonah is a baby.
N: Okay.
N: My paci all gone?
M: Yep.
N: Mama, pray ("pay").
M: prays for comfort and love and a good night's rest and apparently gets a little long-winded...
N: All done pray, Mama.
M: Do you want a teddy bear or a soft animal to sleep with since you don't have your paci?
N: Yeah. (chooses a plastic farm animal horse)
M: Nigh-nigh, Mama. No paci. K.
And then she didn't make a peep and slept until 6:30 this morning. The first thing she said was, "My horsie go?" And then about 5 minutes later, "My paci all gone."
Sigh. I'm just as emotionally attached to her paci as she was. Something about my baby growing up. I'm really not normally like that, but for whatever reason, I've had some trouble saying goodbye to the paci. Goodbye, Paci!
