Joining the Circus

L: Mom, I really want to join the circus.
M: Oh, really?
L:  Yeah.  It really looks like fun.
M: It does sound fun.
L: *waits for a few seconds*...well, can't you sign me up or something?
M: It doesn't really work like that.  You have to be a grown-up.
L: There were kids there!  You can be a kid!
M: I think your parents have to be in the circus to be a kid in the circus.  I'm not really interested right now.
L: Oh.
---several minutes later---
L: I've got it figured out, Mom.  I'll be in the circus when I'm like 18 to 29.  Then when I'm 30 I'll be a teacher.
M: That's a fabulous plan, dear.

What I didn't tell her is that we already live in a circus!!!
